We've been very busy during the month of March! DIOCESAN COMPETITION: Congratulations to the following students who competed in the Diocesan Competition: Justin Ziegler, Nick Spare, Alison Ruark, Liz Hunt, Leah Godbout, Jennifer Zitnik, Alex Gray, Ryan Peluso, and Jennifer Hartke. We competed in math, storytelling, oratory, religion, science and art competitions. Ryan Peluso tied for third place in the science competition. Liz Hunt received second place in the oratory competition. Alison Ruark received third in storytelling. Congratulations, this is quite an accomplishment! Thank you to Mrs. Podraza, Mrs. Pillai, Mrs. Beringer, and Mr. Patti, the parents and students for their work in preparing for and competing in the competition. Congratulations to the following students who participated in the NKU Science Fair on Saturday, March 25: Robert Zgraggen, Eric Wells, Catie Garcia, Julie Kemp, Allison Wintring, Maggie Enzweiler, Jeseca Ryan, Cameron Haynes, Catherine Sosso, Alexandra Wiesner, Alex Gray, Danny Seifried, Julie Rehkamp, Nick Spare, and Ryan Peluso. Alex Gray won first place in Microbiology, and Allison Wintring won first place in Chemistry. Each won $100 and also received special awards for excellence from CINSAM. Alex and Allison are eligible to compete at the state science fair at EKU on Saturday. Alex has a prior commitment and will not be able to attend. Good luck, Allison! Cameron Haynes also won a special award for the use of metrics in his science project. Thank you to Mrs. Pillai and Mrs. Cline, parents and students for all their hard work and dedication to science! Well done! We’re proud of all of you! Congratulations to Kylie Seward whose essay was named as a one of the finalists in the Eighth Grade Pro-Life Essay Contest. Kylie’s essay was one of over 250 submitted to the Diocese Pro-Life Commission. What an honor! Congratulations to Kylie and Mrs. Podraza. 5-A-DAY-CHALLENGE Congratulations to all who successfully completed the 5 A Day Challenge. We drew a winner from each class of the students who completed the challenge. The classroom winners were: Anna Enzweiler, Brianna Williams, Derek Wells, Rachel Rehkamp, Jake Kleisinger, JD Lykins, Jamie Morgan, Brendan Ryan, Zach Ryan, and Taylor Buchanan. Derek Wells was chosen as the school winner. His name will be put into a drawing with students from other schools for the Grand Prize. Thanks to everyone who participated, and thanks to Ms. Flach and Mrs. Cline for organizing the 5 a day challenge. Remember this challenge should go on every day not just the week that we call attention to our eating habits. CAREER DAY Thank you to all who participated in Career Day. Thank you to our BEST Partner, First Security Bank for helping Ms. Flach and Mrs. Beringer organize the day. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about various careers. It is one of my favorite days! Congratulations to Erin Murphy and Karley Michels who won Aquarium tickets from Diver Dan. Also congratulations to Brittany Riegler who won 6,000 pennies from First Security Bank because she had the closest estimate. HONORS - THIRD QUARTER Congratulations to all students earning honors for the third quarter. ST. HENRY DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL RAFFLE Mary, Queen of Heaven sold 617 tickets for the St. Henry District High School Raffle. The sales totaled $3,085. MQH gets to keep $1,543 which is earmarked for Financial Aid. Thank you to Mrs. Pillai for organizing the sale. Thank you to all who participated. Congratulations to the MQH Family winners: 1st place - Michele Swantek; 3rd place - Bill Rust; 4th place - Paul Lampone. The top seller was Ellen Stamm, a MQH graduate! FISH FRY Be sure to visit the Fish Fry on Friday, March 31 and Friday, April 7 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. We've got the best fish in town! Call ahead and get take out at 371-5727. TERRA NOVA TESTING Terra Nova testing continues the week of April 3 - 7 for students in grades 2, 3, 5, 6 & 7. Be sure that students are getting enough sleep and eating a good breakfast. Test results will arrive during the summer. A parent report will be mailed to your home when we receive the test results. RECONCILIATION Reconciliation is scheduled for students in grades 2 - 8 for Wednesday, April 5 at 9:00 a.m. CELEBRATE READING Because of testing we have to have a shortened celebration of Library Week, but we have some great events planned. Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 6 at 6:30. We will begin the evening with a delicious meal of Stone Soup. At 7:00 p.m. we will divide the families into four groups and have 15 minute stations: DEAR Time, Mother Goose, the storyteller, MQH Wax Museum, and Jeopardy. The author Beverly Cleary is turning 90. There are national Drop Everything And Read Days to celebrate her birthday. Come and help us celebrate! Be sure to send in your RSVP ASAP. This will be a PTO meeting as well as a Catholic Order of Foresters sponsored event. Don’t miss the fun. CATHOLIC ORDER OF FORESTERS You will see Catholic Order of Forester youth rangers at the Masses on April 1 & 2. Please read the flier included in this envelope. Celebrate Reading on April 6 and the Festival of Stars on April 28 are Catholic Order of Foresters sponsored events. We will have a COF t-shirt day on Friday, April 7. YARD SALE Clean out your closets, basement, and garage and bring your gently used items to the Teacher’s Yard Sale. Friday, April 7 is the best day to bring donations to school. The yard sale is Saturday, April 8 from 8:00 to 1:00. LIVING STATIONS The eighth graders will be performing the Living Stations at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10 in the church. All are invited to attend. SPRING BREAK We will be off Holy Thursday and Good Friday, April 13 & 14 and the week of April 17 - 21 for Spring Break. Classes resume on Monday, April 24. FESTIVAL OF STARS Mark your calendars for our annual Festival of Stars program on Friday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. Our fifth - eighth graders, dance classes, and many talented students will be performing this evening. Practices are in full swing and it promises to be a wonderful evening! IMPORTANT DATES
