2nd Grade and 3rd Grade Curriculum

  • Focus on Singing and Playing Orff Instruments
  • Learning Songs
  • Exploring different instruments and their sounds
  • Exploring various tempos
  • Exploring different dynamics
  • Identifying Eighth Notes, Quarter Notes, Half Notes, and Quarter Rests
  • Improvising (on Orff instruments) and Writing rhythms that contain Eighth Notes, Quarter Notes, Half Notes and Quarter Rests.

4th and 5th Grade Curriculum

  • Singing and Playing Orff Instruments and Recorder
  • Identifying different instrument
  • Identifying different tempos
  • Identifying different dynamics
  • Identifying Notes on the Staff
  • Writing and performing rhythms that contain Eighth Notes, Quarter Notes, Half Notes, Whole Notes, Sixteenth Notes, and quarter rests
  • Learning about different styles of music; Jazz, Folk, etc.

6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Curriculum

    • Defining the Elements of Music (Melody, Harmony, Tempo, Dynamics, Form, Genre, Rhythm, Timbre, and Texture) and using them to describe a piece of music.
    • Describing the Purposes for Music (Recreational, Ceremonial, Artistic Expression)
    • Basic Music Theory: Rhythms, Notes on the Staff, Triad Construction
    • Studying Historical Music Periods: Greek, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century
