| Language Arts incorporates and integrates reading (strategies, vocabulary development, comprehension, and appreciation), writing (mechanics, grammar, spelling, and process writing) and communicating (written and oral). The Middle School Language Arts curriculum is designed to develop skills and instill an appreciation for the fundamental tool of communication and interaction – language. Students will acquire the necessary skills for understanding and expressing ideas. It is a structured curriculum that also allows the flexibility to meet the needs of the individual learner. Students use basic texts as well as supplemental materials. The supplemental materials are assigned by the teacher and vary according to student interests, current events, and integration with other subject areas. All students participate in the Star Reader program which is tailored to individual ability levels and each child is assigned an independent reading goal for each quarter.
