Reading

- Emphasis on instilling a love of reading as well as development of skills
- Goals include exploration of different genres, analysis of story structure, expand vocabulary, and develop comprehension
- Several novels will be read over the course of the year for literature study
- Independent reading through the Accelerated Reader Program will be required each quarter. A minimum of 2 books on grade level is our goal for each quarter.
English

- Emphasis on parts of speech and grammar
- Writing activities will be cross-curricular
- I will coordinate English lessons with our grammar book from the reading series.
- We will use Daily Oral Language as well as Daily Language Review
Spelling
- Used in conjunction with Treasures Reading Program
- Tests on Friday and work due on Friday unless a change in schedule is required
- Unit Spelling Bees

- Begin with brief overview of world map
- Some long-term projects and assignments required
- Geography Bee – will be held in January
Science
