MORNING DROP OFF REMINDERS

For safety and efficiency:

  • 5 cars should release children at one time – some students will walk the sidewalk to the doors.
  • Children should exit on the passenger side of the car – this is important for safety reasons, as some cars are passing on the left.
  • If you are entering the building to visit the office or walking your young child to the door, you must park in the lot and walk around the circle on the sidewalk.  Do not cross through the traffic.
  • Thank you for your cooperation.

GRANDPARENT DAY

We will celebrate these special people in our lives on Thursday, September 9th.  Grandparents should arrive at 12:20 and meet their grandchildren by going to the classroom of the youngest grandchild.  We will begin at 12:30 with a prayer service in the Fr. McGuire Activity Center (gym) and continue with a presentation there.  Grandparents will then have an opportunity to visit the classrooms.  We will resume classes at 1:30.  We need the parking lot emptied for afternoon pickup.  Grandparents are welcome to take their grandchildren with them when they depart at 1:30.  Teachers need to be notified if grandparents are taking students with them.  Students who leave early that day will NOT be marked with a partial absence.  Your children will be bringing home an invitation to extend to grandparents this week.

YEAR BOOK

The 2009-2010 MQH Year Book has been delivered to all who ordered one.  There are some extra copies for sale for $15.00.  If you would like one contact Mrs. Hunt: g.hunt@mqhschool.com.

FLAG POLE

I hope you all are enjoying our new flag pole.  We want to extend our appreciation to the Comstock’s for donating this replacement for the one that blew down in a wind storm.

MINI-BANK

The students may open accounts or make deposits in current accounts beginning this Thursday, September 2nd.  Any who do so this first week will earn an out of uniform pass for September 23rd.

WALK-A-THON

This is the PTO’s major fundraiser proceeds of which benefit every student. We are excited to be doing the walking on St. Henry District High School’s track this year!  Please support this important effort by our hardworking PTO.

SERVICE

This school year, as a part of our service projects, we will be sponsoring a food drive monthly for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.  Due to an increase in requests, the shelves of the SVDP are in constant need of groceries.  We ask that you do what you can.  Perhaps add one extra item to your grocery shopping list and send it to school.  It would be great if your child could use some of his/her own money to purchase a box of mac and cheese or other food item.

Each grade will be assigned one month out of the school year to participate in this project.  The teachers will distribute a request letter when it is their assigned month to donate food.  Sixth grade is asked to donate for the month of September.

The foods requested are: cereal, canned fruit, soup, crackers, pasta, pasta sauce, ravioli, spaghettios, canned vegetables, boxed macaroni and cheese, rice, instant potatoes, canned tuna, pork and beans, peanut butter and jelly.

Thank you for your help and generosity.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILATION

Students in grades third through eighth will be receiving this sacrament once a month on a Friday after Mass.  The first time will be this Friday, September 3rd.

STEWARDSHIP

All students in grades kindergarten through eighth who are parishioners of Mary, Queen of Heaven Parish received stewardship envelopes last Friday.  These are dated to begin this weekend, September 4-5.  Please encourage your children to show their appreciation of God’s blessings by using the envelopes for a small monetary donation or words of how they used time or talents.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT

Junior Achievement will be back again this year in most of the grades.  Junior Achievement (JA) is a world-wide non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy and career development.  JA programs use hands-on experience to help the kids understand the economics of life.  The programs are taught by volunteers that use materials prepared by JA’s professional staff.  JA provides students with the knowledge and practical skills they need to make better decisions – decisions that lead to a better future, where their dreams can become reality.  The experience the students gain through participating in JA provides a foundation for life-long success.

KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE

It’s that time again.  For those of you who are new, please let me explain.  KORT is a dinner, dance, live & silent auction held annually by Mary, Queen of Heaven School.   This year we will have the event on

Friday, October 22nd at 6:30pm at Receptions.

Every year each classroom gathers items and donates a basket or some other wonderful item for the live and silent auction.  We are trying to make this auction very unique and different, so get your creative juices flowing.

The Knights of the Roundtable Event benefits every student at MQH School.  The proceeds are used to provide an excellent academic program, keep the tuition as low as we can and provide financial aid.

As always, we appreciate everything the parents do for us and for making Mary, Queen of Heaven the wonderful place it is today.
